How are NCHSC’s achieved?

  • NCHSC are achieved through assessment and training.
  • The addition of a “classroom set-up” will now provide the candidate with extra theoretical and practical knowledge to helpn them become better professionals
  • This process will tests candidates’ knowledge, understanding and Practical learning performance to make sure they can demonstrate competence in their own respective areas of assignment
  • 2x a week ( 8 hours & 7 hours) Classroom session will be held for a total of 15 hours a week. This will now compliment the 35 hours (20 hours work in the Care home & 15 hours of Training) of Practical Learning.
  • This will take place for 6 - 7 months per year. For the remaining 5 to 6 months per year, the candidate can work more than 35 hours legally.

When new candidates start a NCHCS work placement, their teacher will help them to:

  • Identify what they can do already
  • Agree on the standard and level they are aiming for
  • Analyse what they need to learn
  • Choose and agree on activities that would allow them to learn what they need.

At this point, candidates might agree with their employer or supervisor to do slightly different work to gain the evidence of competence they need.
